East Londonderry MLA Maurice Bradley has urged the Communities Minister to re-open the Arts Council's musical instruments for bands scheme which closed today after being open for applications for 17 days.
The DUP representative raised the issue during questions to the Minister in the Assembly today.
Speaking afterwards he said,
"The Arts Council funding for musical instruments is absolutely vital for many bands across Northern Ireland, and particularly this year when many of them have not been able to hold fundraising concerts or other events.
The window for applications in the most recent round of funding was a mere 17 days, making it impractical for many bands to hold a virtual meeting and submit the necessary details.
The Communities Committee agreed to request an extension from the Minister and wrote to her on 12th November making this request. It is disappointing that the Minister had not seen this letter despite the window for applications having closed today at 4pm. However, I would urge her to follow-through on her commitment made in the Assembly today to review what happened and to ensure that no-one misses out as a result."
