Mr Newton said, “The Comber Greenway is a fantastic facility used by many people across East Belfast and beyond. I have lobbied the Minister on this lighting investment over several years and this announcement is very welcome.
The technology that will be used to reduce light pollution is also particularly welcome and that it will be wildlife friendly. The Greenway is a very well-used path and this lighting will allow even greater use.
This seven mile mile flat route, from Holywood Arches to Comber, is popular with joggers, walkers, cyclists, dog walkers. It has great potential as a wildlife education facility for local schoolchildren.
The full potential of this fantastic facility has yet to be realised. I look forward to further investment in appropriate route signage including historical and cultural information being erected.”
