DUP Leader and First Minister Arlene Foster said
The Government willingness and commitment to use Article 16 is welcome. With major retailers describing the Protocol system as unworkable and a threat to sustainability, choice and costs then much greater flexibility is needed from the EU. If not, article 16 will be required.
Workable new VAT proposals for second hand cars are vital to sustain this sector in Northern Ireland. Swift delivery on the issue of steel tariffs must follow to prevent harm to the manufacturing sector.
The intense work to prevent and minimise problems of the Protocol will and must be maintained in the days weeks and months ahead. All progress made is welcome but many issues remain unresolved and positive momentum must continue.
