DUP Leader Arlene Foster has said the approach by Sinn Fein in organising a political rally at the Storey funeral is an insult to every family throughout this pandemic who buried a loved one with only a handful at the graveside.
Mrs Foster said,
“We will analyse the Belfast City Council report but there will be further questions. Ultimately, reports and apologies will do little for the 8 families who were appallingly treated as second-class citizens by their local council.
Sinn Fein’s determination to burst the covid-19 restrictions so they could have a political rally for IRA man Bobby Storey was a disgrace. It was a total insult not just to the 8 families impacted at Roselawn but every family throughout this pandemic who buried a loved one with only a handful at the graveside.
Some people have written to me, describing themselves as Sinn Fein voters and explained how they couldn’t even attend the funeral of their own brother or sister yet the republican top brass just do as they please. The people, from all backgrounds, will not be played for fools.
The Sinn Fein attitude of one rule for their members but another rule for the rest of us won’t wash. Whatever reports whether from Belfast City Council or the police may say, the people who kept to the rules will offer their judgment on Sinn Fein at the next election. Their actions were reckless and totally undermined the health messaging.”
