The arrival was welcomed by Health Spokeperson and Deputy Chair of the Assembly's Health Committee, Pam Cameron MLA.
She said; "The Secretary of State's announcement will provide reassurance to the public and our local Health Service workers. This large delivery will greatly help replenish PPE stocks across all of Northern Ireland's Health Trusts and work is now beginning to urgently allocate this out to our frontline services. Our health workers, and indeed all keyworkers, are an inspiration to us all at this time.
In light of the huge global demand for PPE and ventilators, the NI Executive have been putting every effort into sourcing vital equipment including through many Northern Irish manufacturers who have now diversified their businesses to develop and supply our local Health Service. An order of 190 additional ventilators and an extra 650 breathing support machines is also being processed speedily for Northern Ireland.
As we come into the expected 'surge' scenario, I would urge the public to adhere to advice by staying at home as much as is possible and maintaining social distancing. Only by following the advice can we flatten the curve of COVID-19 and thereby help our Health Service cope with a large increase in cases requiring medical attention."
